Entry One| This Dope House | Textiles (excerpt)
I love African textiles. Do I have complete knowledge when it comes to patterns, meanings, and ethnic origin? Um, no. Not quite. But what I do know is that I love the boldness, the shapes, the lines, and oh yes, the color! It’s all so freaking sublime.
side note: I’ve become quite snobbish towards the trend of commercial retailers selling what they call ethnic or tribal prints. To say the least, they’re generic. I mean, I live in Chicago. Alls I have to do is wait for a few choice festivals or visit some local shops, and bam! – I got the real thing. When you compare commercial ethnic prints to authentic textiles, there’s no comparison! Forever 21…go sit down somewhere…
I want my home to be a mixture of prints, and what better way to introduce prints into a space than with throw pillows and curtains? It’s an inexpensive way to make a space unique and stylish. With that being said, let me introduce you all Nasozi. Nasozi is the dope designer on Etsy [click here] from whom I purchased the pillows photographed above. Aren’t they darling?
This print is giving me everything I need. To accompany the pillows, I have purchased a valence as well. I feel like this print will be gorgeous with the theme I’m trying to create.
If you are interested in introducing some fun patterns and prints into your home, check out Nasozi and her shop Origins Style on Etsy. She’s great.
