Candomblé omo orixa, Oxala.
Orisha of wisdom and purity, ethical uprightness, paternal blessings, creativity and intelligence. Also known across the Diaspora as Obatala, Orishanla, Obanla. He dresses in white garments always. His power comes from keeping cool, calm, collected. In traditional Yoruba myth Obatala first created the Earth and then created all of humanity from clay. It was hard work and after a while he drank palm wine to quench his thirst and became inebriated. He continued to work but was drunk and made mistakes. When Olodumare - the Owner of Heaven, source of all things - blew life into Obatala’s creations he saw that there were people born deformed and disfigured. From that day on Obatala swore to keep sober and renounced alcohol. Children of Obatala should keep a cool head and stay sober if they want to access their strength and power.
